Jump, Jump for "Da Bird"

There's little doubt that the greatest cat toy of all time is Da Bird. It's simply a lure made of real bird feathers that dangles from a stick, but cats go wild for it. Even though my cats were born in a shelter and have never seen a bird, somehow they know that they should be hunting this toy.

I do have to admit, though, that my boys are smart. They know the difference between toy and real. Because when we stop playing with them, they come meowing for more bird. A real bird wouldn't be controlled by us. Anyhow, here are some videos of Arthur (video 1) and Beowulf (video 2) playing with Da Bird.

My cat also loved that toy, even after she chewed off the bird, she still loved chasing the stretchy string attached to the pole. Definitely a favorite.

Our current cat is a laser pointer addict. She loves chasing the red dot. She even KNOWS the laser pointer causes it and will beg us to pick it up and use it. If we don't take the hint, she leaps up and bats it around herself till we "make the red dot come out and play."

Cool kittymovies.

I get Nardo to run through monkeygrass to hunt a yellow feather, and I think everybody knows about his toy-takeaway game that's catcammed. ;)

yes, whoever designed da bird could understand a cat's mind. its my kitties' favorite toy and i have to hide in the closet when not playing with them with it, otherwise, they'll destroy it. though the first time i tried it with the older 1, i guess we played 2 long and 2 vigorously cuz she had a seizure and lost all urinary, muscular, and salivary control. guess it wasn't traumatic cuz its still her fav toy. its funny cuz the kitties "take turns" trying 2 catch it unless the kitten gets impatient, then he just jumps in front of the big 1 and pushes her outta the way. arthur and beowulf r 2 cute (though it looks like beowulf had better luck at catching da bird)!

Smokey also loves the Da Bird. She knows where I sore it and if the door to the closet is not closed tight she gets in and takes the toy out herself. Arwen also likes it just not with the same intesity as Smokey.

Avram, I'm sure your videos are great, if I could see them! However, my ISP is unfortunately too slow... so how about some of those beautiful stills you used to post, for those of us still in the "low-rent district"??? Please?

Avram, I hope that since making that video you've learned more about how to use Da Bird to it's full advantage. When used the right way, Da Bird can literally make your cats FLY jumping up into the air to try and catch it!!! You've got to swing it back and forth in a figure-8 motion, fast enough that the feathers SPIN and make a FLUTTER SOUND. That's why the feathers are attached to a fishing spinner. If all you're doing is bobbing the thing up and down like you are in the video, your cat ain't seen nothing yet!
