Big Day Finally Arrives

The level of work and stress from both my new job and wedding planning has really kept me away from this blog, but now the day has finally arrived. Our Big Cat Wedding is taking place tomorrow.

Unfortunately, we can't have the boys attend our wedding, but they will be there in spirit. As I said in a prior post, we are giving a donation to Bideawee in lieu of party favors, we got a pair of cats as our wedding cake topper, and our guests will be invited to order one of two signature drinks, a Beowulf Iced Tea or an Arthurtini.

This is an exciting time, but also a stressful one, not only because of the wedding but also because of the honeymoon, which is going to be the first time that Liz and I are really away from the boys for any period of time. My cousin is staying over here for part of the time and a professional cat-sitter is coming over a few times a day for another part of the time, but I am still very nervous and a little wracked with guilt over going away for a few days.

Hopefully the boys will be fine, but will they be angry at us for leaving them?

Don't feel guilty about leaving your boys while you are away - I'm sure they will be fine.
We had four days away from our family of eight rescue cats and little old cocker spaniel dog last year and used a pet sitter for the first time - we left with much trepidation!
They were fine when we came back - one or two had missed us more than the others - Bibbi, who sleeps with us every night had missed us most but many cuddles later we were forgiven.
Just be prepared to make it up to them when you get home - as I am sure you plan to do.
Love your blog page by the way - great fun to read - have just got into blogs and am in the process of setting up my page - yours is inspiration!

Congratulations on your wedding! We just got married too and felt guilty as well for leaving Beau Beau & Angie for an extended honeymoon. Once you get where you are going you will feel better. Don't worry, they will be fine. They may be a little rambunctious the first day or two after you return though!

Our cats always go "on the 5th" with us - that is the silent treatment. Yet try leaving a dog inside while you go on vacation. congratulations!

Congrats on the big day and we hope you have a great honeymoon. Mommy says don't worry your boys will be ok but just a little ticked off when you get back. You can make it up to them with treats and extra love!

Your cats won't be angry at you. They will be sooo happy to see you when you return that any hard feelings will be forgotten.

My husband and I left out cats for a week to visit distant relatives and our cats were just so pleased to see us when we returned.

I understand that guilt though. It is hard to leave members of our family behind, expecially when they don't understand what is going on!

Glad to see you blogging again! Congratulations on your wedding! The first time we left the cats when we went away I would say the amount of time the cats ignored us was half a day. The next time we left, it was a 1/4 of a day and then it is just a few hours or half hour. In fact one cat is just happy to see us, the other one Calico, she is a little bit more skittish so I think more than anything it has to do with how well they do with strnagers, etc.

I have a similar problem because we are going away twice this summer for a week at a time. I have to hire a pet sitter for my 17 year old dog & the cats and that's very stressful to even think of leaving but the woman I hired is super nice.

Enjoy this time because it will be one of the happiest and most exciting memories to reflect upon. :)

Firstly, cogratulations! Very good to hear wedding news indeed.
They'll be fine I'm sure; they're well taken care of while you're away, for which they'll be very grateful of course.
And when you get back, well, batten down the hatches!

They'll be fine, they have eachother. I left my old cat alone for a week once when i went to vegas. You leave plenty of food out and they learn to ration it. They're independent by nature..cats don't run in packs like dogs. I recently left my new one home alone for the first time when i went to a funeral for 2 days. I came back expecting the house to be TORE UP.

She did just fine, not the slightest evidence of a tantrum to my suprise.

They should be fine. Don't do any laundry a few days before and leave your dirty clothes (especially socks) strung about the place. If you can stick a few stinky items in a plastic bag in the freezer and leave instructions for the cat sitter to take them out about 3 days after you leave. This will reinforce your smell to the boys and make them less stressful.

Congrats on the marriage!
