Check up Results

Took Arthur in today for another weekly checkup with the vet. Hes now 14 lbs up from 13.6 last week and the Dr is very pleased with his overall demeanor and the fact he has little to no yellow color anymore. Even the low grade fever he's been running the last few visits is gone and by all accounts Arthur is doing well.

The only fly in the ointment is the fact that he still isn't eating much on his own. The Dr is still puzzled over this and gave us an appetite stimulant to use as needed to try and help Arthur eat more by mouth and less by tube. He took some urine and blood samples to do tests and will call us tomorrow with the results.

While the last few weeks have been stressful and trying in the extreme we are beyond happy with the new vet and the level of care he has been getting. These weekly visits are a benchmark of how much Arthur is improving and gives us a chance to get answers to questions and suggestions for what we can do differently or improve on in regards to his care.

We cant thank all of you enough for you support, ideas and suggestions during this time. It means a lot to us and we cant begin express our appreciation :)

Oh I am happy to hear he has gained a bit and is doing well, other then the lack of appetite. Is it possible that the tube is interfering with him eating - not the feedings but the actual, physical tube? I don't know much about them so I am not sure how it works. We are sending him some "eat your food" purrs and prayers in addition to the "get well" prayers we have been sending.

I will keep my fingers crossed that the appetite stimulants will work (I think they will). This vet is head and shoulders above your other one, and good for you for finding them!! I even looked at their website and I was massively impressed. The fact they show, and talk about, their own pets, says volumes about their humanity. *please keep us all informed about the results of the blood tests* Love to you all, (from socidoc)

Re: the tube interfering with his appetite.

The thought has definitely occurred to us, but the vet doesn't think a tube can interfere with appetite. And even if it does, there's a catch-22. We really can't remove the tube until we see him eating on his own.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

We're hoping the stimulants help, and the first results are mixed. We gave him and Beowulf some Solid Gold Tuna tonight and he ate maybe 1.5 ounces, which is better than usual, but still not the level we'd like to see.

To get arthur to eat just leave the dry food on the floor with nothing on top of it you dont give him anything till he eats all of it when he eats it than you can give him a treat. Then he will know if he eats that he will get something after. And when he gets used to it start giving him less and less treats than soon nothing you can give him wet food sometimes after he gets used to dry. like maybe 1 or 2 a week. and if he still doesnt eat dry food then you should try different types of brands.
